RJA #15: Reflection

During this semester it was a process so that us students will have the ability to learn how to write long papers in APA and MLA formating. For the twelve page paper I chose to research how sex in advertising is affecting youth. Throughout the semester it was a step by step process, and in the end I was able to fully understansd the process. Throughout the rest of my college life I am about 95% sure I will have to do many more research papers, and this class has prepared me for the future.

Jessica Blair's paper provides information that is completely relevant. In her work I have a full understanding of what is being states. If I worked on other topics I would use her work, and strongly reccomend others.

This is by far one of the best Institutes that I have found accurate information on. By being able to provide ghraphs helped me visualize the numbers better.It also showed me what difference it made in percentage for each race. Abma JC was an outstanding website.Here I actually put together different thoughts that I had in my mind. Research Question- Is sex advertising affecting the minds of young men and women?

Thesis/Claim-
Sex in advertising should not be allowed because it is taking over the minds of young men and women.

RJA #9a

Research Question- Is sex in advertising affecting youth?
Precise Claim- Sex in advertising is should not be allowed because it is taking over the minds of young men and women between the ages of 13-19.

Reasons/Blueprint

1) It influences youth to be sexually active.
2) It increases the rate of STD's and STI's.
3)Causes mainly young women to have low self esteem, to be depressed, etc..
4) It causes youth to act in an adult manner.

Complete Thesis Statement- Sex in advertising should not be allowed because it is taking over the minds of young men and women. In today's advertising's sex is what is being advertised, not the actual product.

Imagine looking at an ad with a sexy, half naked girl sitting on a sink straddling a handsome man who has his shirt off. The average person would think this ad was selling something sex-related, but surprisingly it is an ad for Candies perfume. Currently, more and more ads are made to look sexual because the new motto is “sex sells.” Typically, cologne, perfume, and alcohol ads seem to have the most sexual content in them. They use sexual content to tell their products. This seems odd because these products really have nothing to do with sex. For example, an ad for SKYY Vodka shows a man from the waist down with his legs apart, a bottle of vodka in his hand, and a woman wearing a skimpy bikini top lying underneath him.

Paraphrase
Although it may seem as if sex is what is being sold in many of the advertisements, it is not. Advertisements such as SKYY Vodka, perfume, and cologne are not trying to sell sex, the are just advertising it so more people can buy their products.

Summarize
A girl laying between a a guys legs, both whom are half naked are only advertising alcohol, 5KYY Vodka. "Sex sells" is the new motto in our time, so companies do what is eye-catching to its' consumers.
